Brown, 29, finished his semifinal heat in 44.59 seconds, behind only defending Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner (44.15).

Court refuses to block JMU sports cuts

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ A federal appeals court has dealt another blow to a coalition of sports participants and fans challenging James Madison University's plan to eliminate 10 athletic teams. A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday affirmed a judge's refusal to block the cuts while a lawsuit is pending.

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State baseball team jumped four spots to fourth in the last Division I black college baseball poll, as released by www.blackcollegebaseball.com. The Spartans finished the 2008 season on Sunday, May 18, with a loss to Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Baseball Tournament championship round.
