Judge approves Michael Jackson merchandising deal

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Official Michael Jackson merchandise will soon arrive on store shelves, but the fate of a proposed tour of the King of Pop's memorabilia remains in limbo after the singer's mother expressed renewed concerns on Monday. Attorneys for Katherine Jackson withdrew their objections to an agreement with merchandiser Bravado to bring everything from Jackson trading cards, apparel and cell phone themes to consumers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Gidget the Chihuahua, the bug-eyed, big-eared star of 1990s Taco Bell commercials who was a diva on and off the screen, has died. She was 15.

Nas ordered to make $40K monthly payments to Kelis

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A judge has ordered Nas to pay Kelis nearly $40,000 in monthly support for the near future, a day after the "Milkshake" singer gave birth to the divorcing couple's baby boy. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger issued the order at a Thursday hearing.

Rogers will receive $30,471 in spousal support per month; the couple's son will receive $9,027, according to the court records.

Rogers gave birth to the boy, named Knight, at a New York hospital Wednesday. The 29-year-old filed for divorce from the rapper in April. The couple was married in July 2003.

Manslaughter investigation targets Jackson doctor

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael Jackson's personal doctor is the target of the manslaughter investigation into the singer's death, according to court documents filed July 23, the day after agents seized items from the physician's Houston clinic and a rented storage unit.

'Potter' conjures up $159.7 million in 5 days

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Harry Potter continues to work box-office alchemy, turning his latest movie adventure into an overnight blockbuster.

The sixth installment, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," took in $79.5 million domestically over opening weekend and $159.7 million since debuting July 15, according to estimates from distributor Warner Bros. on July 19.

The movie also took in $237 million overseas since Wednesday in 54 countries, bringing its worldwide total to $396.7 million.

With some of the best reviews of any "Harry Potter" movie, "Half-Blood Prince" was off to the fastest overall start in franchise history.

Michael Jackson dies in LA hospital

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday, June 25. He was 50.

Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones. "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Justin needles his record boss about 'SexyBack'

NEW YORK (AP) - Jamie Foxx is the comedian, but he provided the music and Justin Timberlake got all the laughs at a charity event to honor their record label boss. Timberlake, Foxx and others paid tribute to RCA/Jive Label Group President Barry Weiss on Thursday as Weiss was honored by the UJA-Federation as the group's music visionary of the year.

New iPhone goes on sale with less drama

NEW YORK (AP) - The new iPhone went on sale June 19, greeted by much smaller lines and less hoopla than previous models.

A few hundred people were in line just before the 7 a.m. opening of Apple Inc.'s flagship store on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, a fraction of the people who lined up around the block for last year's launch.

That launch turned into a debacle as Apple's servers failed to cope with the load of new customers trying to activate their phones. People who already had iPhones were trying to install a software update on the same day, adding to the pressure.

On Wed. June 10 a massive crowd of 17,500 fans packed Virginia Beach's Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. The Pop-Punk Quintet Paramore got the crowd in frenzy when the Drums, Bass and Guitar began blaring through the Amphitheatre's skyscraping speakers. As soon as vocalist Hayley Williams, 20, stepped to the stage forefront there was an absurd up roar.

Usher files for Divorce after two years of marriage

After nearly two years of marriage R&B singer Usher and wife, Tameka Foster, have called it quits. The couple filed for divorce June 11, in Atlanta, GA.

According to In Touch Magazine the two have lived apart for a year.

This report follows Foster's cardiac arrest four months earlier, after complications during a cosmetic procedure in Brazil. Usher flew to Foster's side, but was unaware of the surgery.

Although reports claim that the two have split, a source, of TMZ,mentioned that Foster has yet to sign any papers.

'Twilight' takes a bite out of MTV Movie Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The MTV Movie Awards were a blood bath May 31, with "Twilight" taking five trophies, including best movie. But it was Sacha Baron Cohen who gave the show it's trademark bizarro moment when he landed upside-down on the lap of Eminem.

Chris Brown suffers more legal woes

Already facing potential jail time, singer Chris Brown is being sued again. On Wednesday, May 27, a photographer filed charges claiming the singer's bodyguard roughed him up outside a Las Angeles fitness center when he tried to snap a photo of Brown. The photographer, Robert Rosen, said he shot the photo of Brown and his friends playing basketball at the fitness center on March 13.

Kimora Lee Tweeting while in Labor

Baby Phat CEO and fashion model Kimora Lee Simmons shared with the world that her baby was on its way, while in labor! Simmons, in labor, updated her Twitter status saying, "It's time!! No turning back! At hospital in labor right now," E! Online reported.

Va. Tech newspaper sues over denied FOIA request

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech's student newspaper is suing the West Virginia State Police to obtain documents related to the investigation of a graduate student's disappearance in September 1998. The lawsuit filed by Educational Media Co., operator of The Collegiate Times, seeks to enforce a Freedom of Information Act request for records on missing architecture student Robert Kovack.

T.I. packs Atlanta arena before heading to prison

ATLANTA (AP) - Grammy-winning rapper T.I. told fans he would stay optimistic when he heads to prison on a federal weapons conviction.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford J. Harris Jr., performed for a packed audience Sunday night in Atlanta's Philips Arena less than two days before he is to begin serving the sentence of a year and a day. "I'm going to stand up tall, head up high," he said. "Thank you for all of your support." Many in the packed crowd of about 16,000 people held up encouraging signs, like one reading "T.I. We Will Miss U!"

Kanye West doesn't like Twitter _ or impostors

NEW YORK (AP) - Kanye West doesn't like impostors. And he doesn't care much for Twitter, either.

In a blog posting, the outspoken rapper railed against the micro-blogging site for allowing users to set up accounts under fake names. West called on the site to take down the user tweeting under his name - and Twitter listened.

The user - named KanyeWest - was suspended Wednesday, May 13. The site doesn't allow impersonation, but does allow parody impersonations clearly meant as a joke.

Final 2 'American Idol' singers selected

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Danny Gokey is dancing off "American Idol," leaving showy Adam Lambert and twangy Kris Allen to duke it out in the finale of the popular Fox singing competition next week. Gokey, the bespectacled 29-year-old church music director and recent widower from Milwaukee, was revealed to have received the fewest viewer votes on Wednesday, May 13.
